Karl Marx (1818-1883) was a German philosopher, political economist, historian, political theorist, sociologist, communist, and revolutionary, whose ideas played a significant role in the development of modern communism. Marx summarized his approach in the first line of chapter one of The Communist Manifesto, published in 1848: "The history of all hitherto existing society is the history of class struggles." Marx argued that capitalism, like previous socioeconomic systems, would inevitably produce internal tensions which would lead to its destruction. Just as capitalism replaced feudalism, he believed socialism would, in its turn, replace capitalism, and lead to a stateless, classless society called pure communism. This would emerge after a transitional period called the "dictatorship of the proletariat": a period sometimes referred to as the "workers state" or "workers' democracy". In section one of The Communist Manifesto Marx describes feudalism, capitalism, and the role internal social contradictions play in the historical process: We see then: the means of production and of exchange, on whose foundation the bourgeoisie built itself up, were generated in feudal society. At a certain stage in the development of these means of production and of exchange, the conditions under which feudal society produced and exchanged...the feudal relations of property became no longer compatible with the already developed productive forces; they became so many fetters. They had to be burst asunder; they were burst asunder. Into their place stepped free competition, accompanied by a social and political constitution adapted in it, and the economic and political sway of the bourgeois class. A similar movement is going on before our own eyes.... The productive forces at the disposal of society no longer tend to further the development of the conditions of bourgeois property; on the contrary, they have become too powerful for these conditions, by which they are fettered, and so soon as they overcome these fetters, they bring order into the whole of bourgeois society, endanger the existence of bourgeois property.Marx argued for a systemic understanding of socio-economic change.

It is their literate effort to provide a rallying cry for the communist movement. The call? "The history of all hitherto existing society is the history of class struggles." Thus, they lay out their perspective, based on class conflict. Given this view, it is not surprising that they close this rather brief work with the call: "WORKING MEN OF ALL COUNTRIES--UNITE." Why? "The proletarians have nothing to lose but their chains. They have a world to win."In between is a consideration of the following issues--class conflict (bourgeoisie versus proletarians), proletarians and communists, a critique of socialist and communist literature, and a comparison (and contract) with other opposition parties.In the process, the reader gets a thumbnail sketch of Marx' and Engels' political views (expanded in much greater depth in other works).For a quick and dirty introduction to Marx' thought, this isn't a bad starting point, although written fairly early in his career (1848). . .

Very disappointing that I have to buy this product. Marxs would be very upset.

This was the wrong book for me, but maybe it will be better for you: I was expecting more of a much more clear cut guide on how exactly to overthrow the current regime in order to create a utopian society in which class no longer exists. He does a great job of providing a lot of examples where other versions of communism are wrong and flawed, and why, but never really gives a decent tutorial on how to pragmatically instantiate marxism.. I almost got the feeling like the substrate of reality was such that you can never eliminate the "bourgeoisie snakes from within", perhaps that alluded to the idea that layering a Marxist structure on top of reality means that reality will always poke through, even after it has suffocated and starved enough?? I followed the author on Kindle, we'll see if he publishes a vol. 2 sometime soon!

Got my copy and pages 9 through 40 are inverted and upside down. The entire book is goofed up because of this. I'm not pleased.

The theological secular horror of our time. CIA Director John Brennen voted Communist. This should tell you something about the United States but you will only understand the current chaos of the US if you read the Manifesto, then read it again, and then reread the Manifesto. Annihilate all morality and all religion, establish Free Trade, Centralized all communication by the government, establish Democracy, annihilate Justice, Liberty, and Freedom all to support the New Jerusalem and monopoly of the World Market. Eliminate nationality, family and eliminate borders. Overturn and destroy the existing state of things! In the Manifesto the proletariat becomes more and more 'equalized', meaning reduced to nothing, powerlessness, silenced, in the scripted struggle. This is the real meaning behind the lie of Utopianism Marxist try to sell to people. No one person has more power than the other. You are all silenced and equalized. Think about that for two seconds and ponder the horror. Who has say in the Communist Marxist system? Only the bankers. Not even a billionaire like Trump cannot change the system in the US, so now you have some perspective your Marxist Neo Liberal professor did not give you. Marxism is based on One Totalitarian Government. Communism is a theological creation sold in a secular package to ideologues who don't read or understand Marx's theology.

I read The Communist Manifesto in college, at least two or three times, as part of history classes and even a couple English literature classes, to provide context. Yet, I don't know that I read it this closely back then, or that I took the time then to really think about the ideas and take notes (many, many notes). Back then, I was firm in my idea of "democracy good, communism bad," and eventually came to think of the Manifesto as purely a philosophical essay. But right now we are living in an age of economic disparity that is even sharper than The Gilded Age, when less than 1% of the world's population controls more than 95% of the wealth. And yet, few are really critiquing a capitalist system that sets in motion this inequality. And in looking at a communist plan for a manufacturing plant or a socialist state, there appears to be a lot more democracy and "will of the people" going on. I was already on the path of doing more research, but the Manifesto has inspired much more thought than I expected.

It's very light, which is great if you're packing it around. A very quick read, but I suspect that some readers may want the font to be larger. However, given the super low price, it was high quality.

Well, this literature has opened my eyes a bit toward Communists. I still am not a Communist if that's what you are wondering.

This is the best action adventure mystery romantic thriller series I've read in the last ten years or more 😂. The audible versions are so good that instead of walking me softly to the land of nod, the first 5 or 6 times through they kept me up so late I had to switch to an old Heinlein to finally get to sleep. It has been a LONG time since I've seen an author so good that he doesn't need sex or filthy language to make your breath catch, or me to smack my kindle to turn the page. Characters that are so well developed I couldn't help but be sucked into rooting for the home team. Wife and daughter have both admitted to laughing and crying through the whole series. My eyes don't leak over books ,,, me swears it on the precious 😈

I hope you continue to write. I can honestly say that you are definitely one of my favorite writers. Each book captures your attention from their very first paragraph to the last word. Thank you for keeping me wanting to read more and more, especially of your books. I'm sad now because I have to wait for you to write more books. I know there will be more of the Jack Stratton series because Jack and Alice aren't even married yet and Aunt Hattie is still alive, not that I want her to die, but usually when you fall in love with a character they die off. It will be sad but life must go on. Thank you Mr Greyson

Great read I love this series and Jack and Alice and that big loveable dog they own. This story saw Jack and Alice separated because of the job Jack took and the storm that keep their communication at a minimum. Alice was a part of this story but not the same as when Greyson has the couple together to solve a crime. I do tend to like it better when Alice and Jack are working more closely together. It is a good read with a lot of twist and turns and you really can't help but love Jack. There is also a subplot that gets carried over from book to book which gives it depth especially for the characters. Greyson has a great series here and I look forward to reading more.

I literally canceled a weekend day's plans as I could not put this book down. It blends elements of Hitchcock and Ken Follett with a unique twist and a remarkable main character in a gripping thriller set on top of a mountain as men and murder collide. This was the first book in the series I have read but there was just enough backstory in the plot to explain who and what relationships were without distracting from the storyline, something that is not easy for an author to do. Although the plot has a subplot involving the main character's fiance, the two storylines never clash and the various twists and turns in the story appear seamless. Well done Mr. Greyson. I've already ordered more in the series.

This is author Christopher Greyson's newest addition to the Jack Stratton Mystery Thriller Series, and I'd rate it right at the top of the four books that I've read, so far. All have been 5-Star reads, as Greyson brings you a great character in the form of Jack Stratton, his writing is clear and concise, the plots are interesting, and his adding a sense of humor to his characters is much-appreciated, at least by this reader.You can read a brief synopsis of this book on-line, so I won't re-hash what's already available to you, I'll, merely, state that if you are a fan of good mystery-thrillers, than you'll want to check out this book.

I've read each of the Jack Stratton series. If you liked the early Jack Stratton books, I think you will enjoy Jack Frost. If you are new to the series, I think this book can stand on it's own. It doesn't necessarily require the reader to know the back stories from the earlier books. I found Jack Frost to be a fun read with good action and interesting twists. I was pleased that this book goes light on the "romance" between Jack and Alice, which is an unnecessary distraction (personal opinion) in some of the more recent books in the series. I'm looking forward to seeing the direction Mr. Greyson takes Jack Stratton in the future.

When I saw this book on Amazon, I knew I had to have it. Thinking I would just download and read later as I was in the middle of reading a different book. Once I read the description, I knew I had to read this right away. Bye bye other book. I have read the other books in this series and have eagerly waited for this one. I was not disappointed. I hated to put it down to get some sleep. From the beginning to the end I was captured by the story. The only thing I didn't like is that the next book isn't available yet. Thank you for once again providing me with a great read.

I continue to enjoy his books. I didn't mind that this was two stories in one and I like that he left it sort of open at the end for yet another adventure. I think Alice has matured and this wasn't all soppy love story-ish. Yes they are in love and yes they say it but they acted to me like any other couple would react to this situation. Didn't guess the bad guy this time which was awesome as I read page by page and didn't skip through. A great bargain from Kindle sealed the deal.

I'm biased. I know I'm biased. Because I tap with Vicki, and because she has taught and continues to teach me happiness through tap. But here's the thing -- this is the amazing-but-true, stranger-than-fiction story of how the we came to be, and it truly is Vicki's voicing the story of all of us in Tap Pups. Told in two timelines, the "now" storyline tells of putting on a massive 200-dancer annual Spring Show and the "memory" storyline details Vicki's experiences growing up, her family, and dancing. Also not dancing in some of her darker days. That's what makes the present day an encore performance, that Vicki was able to find her way back to her first true love.What a delight it is that in so doing, Vicki built a community of adult dancers of wildly diverse backgrounds and dance experience, who not only come to class together, but become friends outside of class. Encore Performance will tap at your heartstrings until your toes start tapping too. Fair warning: there is no good place to put the book down until you are on your feet and dancing along with the video clips available via embedded QR code. So pass the Kleenex, and tie on your black-and-whites. It's time to dance.

What a wonderful, heartwarming, touching and uplifting story. This is simply not a book about a woman teaching tap to older women in Harrisburg. This is about a woman doing everything she could to raise her two boys when faced with a husband who had issues with alcohol. This is about a son giving back to his Mother later in life when she wasn't sure what the next step would be. This is about a grandmother-raised during the Depression-who did everything she could to help her daughter deal with similar issues (from her husband) that she had dealt with her Dad. This is about women banding together for each other (some of them only meeting once) to face life's biggest battles...cancer, loss of a spouse, life-threatening surgeries, etc. For me, it's a cross between 'The Help', 'Billy Elliot', 'Steel Magnolias' and 'Mamma Mia'.Everyone can take something away from these stories...it's never too late in life to not only find your passion, but lead with it.

There is something in this book that will strike a chord in everyone! All of us who grew up in the fifties and sixties will recognize something Vicki has written about and it will catch you in your heart and make you cry and then make you want to get up and dance--even those of you who are not dancers! I stayed up until 2 a.m. finishing this book; I could just not put it down. Each chapter in the book has three parts: What is happening at specific times of day during the Tap Pups Spring Show 2011, where Vicki is walking throughout The Forum and seeing her dancers. The chapter then morphs into a story about a specific dancer, which then makes her remember an event(s) in her life. This format makes each chapter startlingly real and fresh, but still goes back to Vicki's life story. Her story will make you cry, but will ultimately make you want to laugh with joy--and wish that you lived in Harrisburg, PA so you could join the Tap Pups!The book is well-written and literate. The story pulls you along easily, and all of a sudden, it will be 2 a.m. for you, too! HIGHLY recommended.

I will have to admit first.. that I too am biased. I tapped with the Tap Pups. And I have always admired Vicki. That out of the way, now let me be honest. The book was a page turner. I picked it up and couldn't put it down until I finished it. I loved how she used two timelines, the present and then her heart warming story.Vicki is an inspiration to us all. She brings joy to classes. You go there to dance, but come home with more than that. Hard for me to put into words what she gives to us .

Although this tiny book is not what I expected, I was thoroughly delighted with it. Ms. Brennan's paintings are amazing and made me think of Gerald Murphy's paintings - Mr. Murphy was the father of one of Ms. Brennan's best friends, Honoria - only from the perspective of the very small. Quite charming. Quite good.

The book was ordered uses but was in great shape and was a big hit... Just wished I would have purchased a larger book... this book was a small one and not easy to fully see detail... I did not see any details on the size of the book.

This collection of paintings by an artist most are not familiar with is wonderful for anyone regardless of art appreciation experience. These are the most whimsical little treasures you will ever see...most reproduced actual size...mere inches! This is one of my top 50 books out of my collection of thousands! CHECK IT OUT!!

I agree with the previous review. I bought this book years ago at an art gallery in Hawaii. The pictures of Brennan's paintings are clever and intriguing; they make you smile. Though they are only prints, I may mat and frame a few on them one day, if I can bear to tear them out of the book!

This little book is the next best thing to actually having her work. I just wish it had EVERY painting in it.

My wife and I listened to it while driving to the Midwest for Thanksgiving and we loved it. The backstory of this American Muslim FBI agent was fascinating and eye opening. To hear this agent's story of how 9-11 affected him and how much he loved this country opens your eyes to how an American Muslim feel about America and also the anger he felt with jihadists at the Word Trade Center. Additionally, listening to his story is like you are actually going undercover with his operations; my wife and I actually had sweaty palms listening to the audio book!You'll hear about his rise as a law enforcement officer in drug sting operations that will raise your pulse to to the agent's story of infiltrating an actual terrorist cell he stopped from a major international incident. The narration is fast-paced like a movie, and you quickly get sucked into the story and the events of this FBI agent. It's too bad his identity will never be revealed now since he's still in operations, but if I ever I get a chance I'd shake the man's hand for his faithful sacrificial service as a FBI agent protecting us. This agent was a true patriot and should make every American proud.It was over 16hrs and we loved every chapter. Well worth it if you love audio books.

I did not know this book mainly focused on one particular event but that does not mean it’s not great. Tamer is truly a patriot and a great American. This book even made me feel sorry of one of the terrorist, but it has to be done. From the stress and hiding to find these sick individuals can not be easy though tamer makes it like a walk in the park. Dealing with the worlds most evil people cannot be simple. Praise this man as I wish I knew tamer’s name so I could buy him a drink.

Excellent book, an enlightening and educational book that although nonfiction, reads like a best selling suspense novel. Elnoury (or whatever his real name is) is my new hero. What a brave, patriotic man who possesses devout religious beliefs and lives by them. I highly recommend this!

It's really not that great either. Yes, I did pre-order this graphic novel, and yes, I am a fan of the Outlander series.I prompt you, however, not to read the bad reviews (despite the fact that there are many) until you read this review.As someone who has a great appreciation of literature and art as well, I own a vast array of novels and graphic novels. I won't consider myself an expert by any means, but I think I have a decent working knowledge of where the two differ. I agree with most reviewers that this might be blasphemy for hardcore Gabaldon fans. I am not a hardcore fan, and I decided to take Diana's endeavor with a grain of salt. She was certainly trying something new and regardless of what it was, fans were going to buy it (and they still will, more than likely).To be honest, most of what I loved as a reader about Outlander got lost in the translation from novel to graphic novel. Unlike some, however, I feel that this was not because of the artist, but because of Diana Gabaldon's writing style: she writes in first person. It makes it a little difficult to translate that to graphic form, especially when you are taking it from someone that is outside of the relationship that is the core of her series. I felt that this was the main problem. Had the story been told from Jamie's point of view and not Murtagh's...well, I'm not saying that would have made it leaps and bounds better, but it might have helped a little.That being said, I enjoyed the graphic novel a lot. It was light, not too heavy, did have a lot of nudity, which knowing the Gabaldon, should come as no surprise to readers. I thought the art was gorgeous; the illustrator really did a great job. I personally enjoyed the rough edge that the pictures had to them. It was not clean or polished with hard lines. It was light, airy and it went really well with the story. The art was the best part for me personally.Do I think this was a waste of time? No. I spent a good two hours blowing through it on Tuesday night when I could have been writing a paper and I think it was worth it. I enjoyed myself and it was fun. Not earth shattering, but just fun. I think that this will be fun for you as a fan and as a reader if you allow it to be. I suggest you try not to get caught up in what your expectations of Gabaldon are, because she is not going to live up to them with this graphic novel. This is not her new 800-page novel. This is a 200-300 page graphic novel with no sweeping hills or grand descriptions of scenery or anything else.Take it for what it actually is and not what you were wanting it to be. You will be a lot happier with the results if you just let it happen and try to have fun with it.Would I recommend this? Sure! I already have. My mother and my older sister, and probably my aunt will all read it while on vacation in Key West. I told them it would be great to read for the plane or while sitting in the airport.I hope that is review helps you make the decision whether or not to purchase. I think if you are looking for a Gabaldon novel, stay away from this. You will probably be disappointed and displeased with the artist's depictions of Jamie and Claire. If you want a fun, light, easy read that give you some insight to the other characters, then buy it. Like I said, not great, but I am happy that my money went to something I enjoyed and that others will enjoy as well.I hope, I'll repost and let you know if everyone in my family hated it (I doubt they will).UPDATE:I'm surprised to be the top review! My older sister read this, and she, like many of you, weren't fans! She said that she put it down halfway through. I still have the book on my shelf and enjoy it from time to time.

I love Gabaldon’s work generally speaking and this isn’t an indictment of her writing but moreover the choppiness of the story in this particular graphic novel. There was too much story to fit into one small GN, especially from Jamie’s point of view. It was like shoving an adult sized hog into human baby clothing.The art didn’t really fit the story and so many of the characters looked alike artistically so it was hard to tell who was who (even for a fan). The art was good stylistically speaking but not a “right fit” for this type of story.You HAVE to read the first book to really understand what’s going on in this - I wouldn’t start with this as an introduction into the Outlander world, as it were. I would recommend maybe getting this if you want a quick Outlander fix in between episodes and you have nothing else to do.Not horrible but didn’t knock my socks off. Highest respect for the author but this felt too forced.

I'm not very familiar with graphic novels and the comics I've seen never impressed me much (the simplistic graphics). That being said I thought the soft watercolor-like images for "The Exile" were quite beautiful. The scenic images were gorgeous, but to nitpick, the men's faces (besides Jamie with his red hair) are difficult to distinguish from each other. The story was challenging to follow when I couldn't tell Murtagh from Kenneth or Dougal, three major characters that should have been more distinctive. I know that everyone has their personal opinion of what Jamie and Claire look like. Jamie as pictured is not far off from what I imagined but Claire is doll-faced when she should have a more singular and mature appearance. She is also often drawn overly buxom for a woman coming from a post World War II England where food rationing was rampant. Perhaps Ms. Gabaldon's publishers are looking for a new teenage male demographic (big wink).The dialogue was less satisfying. I know that the editing and condensing of material that is necessary for the constraints of this format must be rigorous and difficult job for Ms. Gabaldon who is accustomed to the voluminous format of her novels. The graphics do a good job of replacing the de:/scriptive narrative which are a large part of her novels but they can't supply character description or development which are the main reasons I enjoy this writer's work. Claire's character is minimized and I thought that she might never have much to say beyond her patented "Jesus H. Roosevelt Christ".When I bought this novel I was looking forward to "a fresh look at the events of the original Outlander: Jamie Fraser's side of the story" as the book description on Amazon promised. I personally didn't think that this novel provided much more of Jamie's point of view than the original book did. This is likely the main reason I felt disappointment after reading "The Exile". I'm not sure if this graphic novel could stand alone without reading "Outlander" first; I couldn't have followed it but perhaps someone more accustomed to this format will have better luck.

When I first purchased this book, it was the first graphic novel I had seen. Honestly, I was not impressed and didn’t even read it. At that time, I considered it very juvenile, and simplistic.Now here I am, years later, taking another look at it. I’ve just finished it and will admit to an appreciation of the wit & humor it contains. The years have brought us the Starz series of Outlander and that adaptation of the novels. So, my perspective has changed, and my opinion has as well.While my first love is the series of “Big Books”, I enjoy all of Diana’s writings, this one included.Try it, you might just find that you like it, also!
