If you are just interested in learning the nuts and bolts of attachment quickly, this book isn't for you. This book is partially a biography and history book. It discusses the lives of the people responsible for creating and evolving the attachment discipline, and it discusses the history of major developments in the ever-evolving theoretical framework. What it doesn't do, however, is go deep into the actual substance of the body of accepted attachment theory. You will get a pretty good sense of the existing theory, but mostly you will understand more about how the theories came about more than what the theories actually are. The second half of the book is better regarding explaining attachment theory's actual tenets, especially the appendix, and there is a bibliography that has a lot of suggested books and studies for learning more. However if one's quest is to develop a full, working knowledge of attachment theory you may want to get supplementing books.

My favorite book. After reading it, I am a radical proponent of Attachment Theory. The first psychological theory with statistical and experimental proof. The book is a fascinating history of the emergence of a psychological theory, full of sensational anecdotes and stories of vindication. The book also works as a heartfelt explanation of the science behind how and how much children are bonded with their guardians. This book is about our first experience with love which informs our lives and identities.

If you love someone that has a troubled past and they are interested in reconciling or you think you could help them, this is a great book. This book is not just for people with a "troubled" past, however. It is a book that explains why we act the way we are, why we treat other people certain way or why we are even attracted to certain personalities.It also explains why early childhood is so crucial. From depression, to different habits, this book gives you an understanding of what determines certain behaviors in our lives.It is truly a shame that there are so many selfish and careless parents out there. If you're going to have a kid you and your partner need to agree to stick around and provide a solid and stable home for at least 10-15 years. If you are unsure about that, don't have a KID! I am convinced that we have so many screwed up people in the world (or a big majority) because of situations similar to the ones presented in this book.Enough ranting. If you or a loved one wants to understand themselves, understand why they are the way they are, this book is for you. You can't become the person you want to be or can be, if you don't reconcile with the person you were raised to be.

This book is deep and chocked full of so much vital information in the key and critical aspect for becoming a parent who "knows" what their baby wants in all situations. I have heard many times from different parents, "If I could just figure out what's wrong with this baby, I'd do something to keep her from crying." Parents and babies who are ATTACHED have learned "what the baby wants or needs" by being consistent and available and allow that instinct to kick in, as it were. There is much communication coming from extremely young infants, and if a parent is willing to listen and learn what is going on, the parent/child bond becomes very deeply entwined . . . the relationship is off to a rousing good start! These early months are critical for esteem-building and personality-forming structures, and this type of read could help all parents immensely in the manner in which the child views themselves and how they fit into the world.

I purchased this book for my developmental childhood psychology class. I am not a big reader as most books dont hold my interest; however this book was really interesting. It gave great insights in how a child should be raised and the consequences of what might happen if a parent is not equipped to handle it. The chapters arent that big, about 20 pages per chapter. Easy to read, no crazy big words. Great book if you need one for a psych. Childhood class.

I agree with everyone's positive reviews, I just want to give people who are going to purchase it a HEADS UP regarding an error in mine. My book went from page 324, back to page 301, then had all its pages up to page 324, then jumped to page 349. So there was a HUGE GLITCH on someone's part and I'm missing a section of this comprehensive, comprehendible, and really enjoyable overview of attachment theory. It took me years to finally get to reading it so I assume it's too late to return for a proper version but it's still so good I have to give it 5/5 stars.

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor and love this book. A great read, scientific and practical. Great book about how our understanding of human attachment has matured over the past century. Packed with information about how we develop our capacity to attach, to love, to live in society, supported with scientific research. Great information for proper parenting of infants. Ainsworth conducted studies measuring infant attachment, from securely attached to avoidant. The mothers who responded quickly and warmly to their babies cries during the early months of life tended to have securely attached babies at the end of the first year, and the babies cried less. Thank you, Dr. Karen, for advocacy of of a simple, warm parenting style, which is backed by research. So strange that there are so many parenting books out there based on personal opinion, and that we have gotten away from simple warm parenting, which is modeled in more communal cultures.

You must read this book.When I first purchased it in January, I suggested that this volume may prove to be the most important book of 2018. Now that I have finished it, I believe that it is one of the more important theological contributions of this generation.Kaemingk writes with a clarity and conciseness that is hard to find, which allows him to cover a lot of ground in these 300 pages. This volume treats such diverse disciplines as sociology, anthropology, political theology, soteriology, ethics, and Christian mission, among others. While the focus of the book is the question of Muslim immigration and an appropriate Christian response, it has broader application to a variety of questions pressing the American Evangelical today.Again, at the risk of sounding over-the-top, I believe this is a crucially important volume to read. Evangelicals need to rethink our position and engagement in American society. This volume offers a thoroughly biblical and deeply thoughtful path for us to follow. My hat is off to Dr. Kaemingk.

I hope this gets a wide-circulation. A valuable resource for all of us. It's important to realize how fear can play into our politics and even Christian faith. Let's get the facts and Biblical storyline to be informed.

I was deeply touched by this book and couldn’t put it down. Though my theological journey has led to a different definition of some aspects of pluralism, this is a vivid and lucid witness that I affirm. It offers light and guidance on a troubling and urgent subject. I hope people will take the time to read this thoughtful theological study. In the light of all the Islamophobia in the world, and in our nation's leadership, I only hope it is not too late.

Very insightful and thought provoking

Comprehensive. True. Timely. Powerful. Comprehensive: Kaemingk doesn't just tell Christians what to do. He lays out an ambitious framework for why. Why should Christians react with hospitality? Why should Christians support pluralistic policies and attitudes? Why should we be suspicious of relativism on the left and fear on the right? He gives the theology and historical context of his Christian pluralism space to grow and flourish. He doesn't languish in the minutiae, nor does he rush through the groundwork that is so essential for his argument. True: this book makes a convincing argument. Sincere Christians will find a severe challenge here as well as plenty to evoke hearty "Amen"s. This will be true for readers who identify themselves on the right or the left when it comes to theological and political questions. Whether it is his incisive analysis of modern political theology or his more intimate look at worship and how it forms the local community, Kaemingk simply brings a good word. Timely: the topic of Muslim immigration is heated and full of landmines. Kaemingk dives right into it - providing powerfully memorable stories to pull his reader along. In this book Kaemingk never leads us too far from the practical implications and haunting questions of Muslim-Christian relations. So this book could not be more timely. He spends time giving us the macro-level story of immigration, while reminding us of how this isn't some far-off hypothetical ethical conundrum dreamed up in an ivory tower. These are questions that affect our neighbors and our worship and our witness as Christians here and now. Powerful: the book begins with pictures of the chaos and fear that permeate these debates. It is an urgent topic. And we feel that in our guts. As the book closes, however, Kaemingk also introduces us to more tender, hopeful moments that can inspire Christian action: friends sharing a meal or conversation, a church warmly inviting people from another culture to cook for them and share their culture. Hearts and minds will be edified and, I dare say, transformed in wrestling with this necessary book. This is a cool head, warm heart, and promising "third way" in an age dominated by fear.

I am a pastor and also lead a refugee resettlement office in WA state. For those of us who work at the intersection of the church, public policy, and Muslim immigrants, this book is an excellent resource. Dr. Kaemingk carefully lays the historical and theological footing for followers of Jesus to walk the straight and narrow path of loving our Muslim neighbors. It is this path, of grace and truth, that can lead all of us to a more just and hospitable society. He draws from a careful examination of the Netherlands, which is about 15 years ahead of the US in experiencing a wave of Muslim immigration. I really appreciate that Dr. Kaemingk is honest about the challenges that come with immigrants who have different social practices and theological ideas then the dominant culture they enter. His suggestions for an appropriate Christian response are not wishful platitudes but rather real life, practical and very biblical actions. I will be sharing this book with others in my church and other pastors in my area because it does what all good theology does - it shows us how to faithfully live as followers of Jesus who bring the Bible to bear on real world issues that affect our society right now. Another great book this reminds me of is Evelyne Reisacher’s “Joyful Witness In the Muslim World”.

It helps us imagine what it looks like as Christians to be deeply rooted in Christ as we love our neighbors from very different religious and cultural backgrounds by looking at how this is happening in other cultural settings, exploring Scripture and our understanding of Christ in relation to pluralism, reminding us of the importance of worship in our formation as Christians, and inviting us to consider stories of real people trying their best to honor Christ and embody hospitality in their daily lives and callings. It's exceptionally readable and inviting. I can imagine those in ministry reading this book as they seek a vision for how to live and how to encourage those in their ministries to live faithfully as Christians in a complicated cultural time, it would be great for a thoughtful book group to discuss, and should get lots of classroom use in Christian higher ed.

This book brings a lot of information to one resource. It is not a replacement for the USB standards documents. It is not a replacement for the Linux USB kernel/driver/module code. USB is a relatively complex world of a mixture of terms, electrical specifications and protocol software requirements. Many of the implementation details are left to the "implementors" to decide how to tackle. Finding commonality among these is the basis for the Linux USB "stack." Much of it simplifies USB host and device software design, but it doesn't make the underlying technologies any less complex. This book does a very good job at bringing all of the information into a single resource. That alone is a very big benefit. The content is well-organized and effectively presented. I didn't find any blatant issues and I can overlook a typo or two and even attribute some things to editorialized content that may not have been as thoroughly reviewed as one would ultimately like; but authors are human, too.I liked this book. If you happen to be thinking USB in the context of Linux, I'd heartily recommend it. Can you absolutely live without it? Undoubtedly. Is it a good value proposition versus thrashing around through the source code and compiling your own result-set of Linux USB info? Absolutely. I've been writing/implementing custom USB devices under Linux for years and I am *still* happy that I bought it. Is it the perfect resource? No. What would it take to be a 5 Star book? I don't know. It is "good enough" for my needs and the CDROM contents are a nice treat.

This book will be helpful if you are developing Linux drivers for USB host controller hardware (including for embedded systems), writing a Linux driver for a device that doesn't fit a standard USB class, or programming a Linux embedded system that will function as a USB device.The focus is on low-level drivers. The USB protocols at this level are complex. The tasks include device detecting, managing virtual file systems, hub communications, and power management. This book will help you understand the protocols, how they fit together, and how Linux implements them. The chapters on debugging and testing are useful to anyone who is developing USB hosts or devices for Linux.(The "IP" mistake another reviewer referred to is the kind of error that crops up in final editing by the publisher, rather than an author error.)

If you hope to be able to hack on the Linux USB stack after reading this book, you will probably be disappointed. For a start, the information is scarce and only covers the obvious, and you will not learn much more than by reading the contents of Documentation/usb in the kernel source tree and parsing the main header source files. Second, the book is poorly written, which makes it very confusing, and contains quite a lot of unforgivable mistakes. What, when the author (who pretends to have 10 years experience in the embedded industry) tries to define what IP in SoC IP stands for, he says... Internet Protocol. Which gives you this perl: "USB in an integrated Internet Protocol (IP) means a single-point powerful solution that helps build complex systems".Two stars because it is not *totally* worthless since it will at least make you laugh once or twice, but you will learn much more about USB by reading the documentation of the Linux kernel and relevant parts of the USB specification. Both of which are available for free.

This book gave an excellent start to my project with its detailed information on how to debug and analyze USB drivers on Linux environment. The book covered everything required with block diagrams and sequence charts and provided a very good insight to USB drivers on Linux. I highly recommend this book for anyone interested in Linux USB development.

I have never planned meals before; I've always just cooked whatever I had on hand. But this cookbook has helped me learn to meal plan and shop for only items I need for the week. I have been using this cookbook exclusively for 12 weeks now, and we love the meals. My whole picky family is eating each night and looking forward to what is being cooked. We discuss which of that weeks meals they would like to see again and I make notes on that recipes page. The spices and veggies in the dishes really give everything great taste and help fill you up without the extra carbs or fats. With the "15 minute meals" and "30 minute meals" sections, even on busy nights I can have something ready to eat quickly. My diabetes is doing much better with these meals and the exercise Zonya (author) encourages you to do. She has even included exercise ideas for you to get out and do while the dish is baking.

I bought this book to learn to cook healthy but yummy meals for my diabetic beloved and it is my favorite of all the diabetic cookbooks I have purchased. The author presents the recipes in a clear and easy to follow manner and the nutrition/diabetic exchange information is very accessible. Many of the meals are very simple and easy to prepare with items that can be kept stocked in the pantry (including a helpful list of items to keep on hand), making it convenient to whip up something healthy with minimal preparation. Quick tips for healthy lifestyle changes are interspersed between the recipes and are presented in an entertaining and enthusiastic way that make them less intimidating and preachy than those I have encountered in other diabetic cookbooks. Our favorites are the homemade turkey sausages, breakfast casserole and breakfast cookies, all of which have become staples in our household. The plastic ring binding is great for keeping the book open to the page you are using while cooking. I highly recommend this cookbook.

Yes, the recipes are the same as her original edition, modified for Diabetic preparations & they are still fabulous! Zonya has a way of walking you through the meal preparations that allows you to come home have crazed from a busy day & still put up a terrific meal, lickety-split. Now, if you have the original book, as I do & prefer to adjust the recipes, you could certainly do that. However, if you are busy, as I am, having it done for you is indeed a gift from Zonya. Why not buy the new version and introduce a friend to Lickety-Split Meals? There are a few more tips in the Diabetic edition and those are simply genius. Buy IT!

I saw one of her healthy cooking presentations in Idaho. I loved what she showed us and told us about Diabetes and cooking. This cookbook is full of wonderful and quick recipes for Diabetic meals and snacks.

Book in new condition. I have already tried a few of the meals and they are good. I ordered her book People on the go, but that has not arrived yet. I can hardly wait.

This is one of the best cookbooks around. The recipes are presented in a great step-by-step feature that truly makes the meals ready in a "Lickety-Split"! The easel feature is a great help as well since you can prop it up right next to your food prep area. The meals are healthy and taste great!

What a great book for those who are not terribly knowledgeable about Diabetes & what's at stake (even for those who are!). It has food plans, menus, counts, carbs, etc. etc. etc. ALL LISTED! I showed this to my husband's diabetes nurse, & she took all info & was to order it, too. THE BEST book out as far as "how to eat" is concerned. Although beef is not the meat "of choice", I would like to have had a few more recipes with beef. Other than that, it's terrific.
