It does not cover all the questions, of course, but the number of algorithms it covers is extensive. It also has some open ended questions without solutions, just to think about some architectural questions or general questions like "what are the major differences between Java and C++", or "what is the difference between HashMap and TreeMap." Some solutions have errors, however seeing the questions themselves was very useful. Note that in some of my interviews I was given a piece of code with a bug in it, and the test was to find what was wrong with the code. So you can use this book to practice that type of questions as well!What the book is missing is an index, if you wanted to look up some specific algorithm, for example, a binary search, there is no way to tell if the book covers it or where it is located. So adding this book to your collection is a good idea for potential question/problem coverage.CON: Solutions don't come with explanations unlike other books, this book is more like a list of questions & their answers. However, a good online researcher can easily find more detail regarding the specific solution by searching based on the question details or the solution. But it would have been nice if this info was already in the book.

The cracking the coding interview will introduce you to the way of thinking and in some advanced problems. After that, this book will be great to continue your preparation. I cover 35 out of 50 problems and it really helped me. I feel more confidence now. It contains problems that are solved with small solutions.. just like the interview questions. I would recommend this book 100%. Personally, the day before the interview, I will have a quick look over my solutions of these questions.I have to mention that this book contains the coding question I was asked 3 months ago by an elite company.

Excellent discussion of "the myth", that medical practice is overburdened with malpractice suits; ;not so good on the general anatomy of malpractice law.

This book is a must read for anyone who thinks that tort reform is a good idea. We've tried it in California. The effect has been to effectively immunize health care providers from liability by closing the courthouse door to claims of medical negligence. There is no incentive to improve the health care system or to address the systemic problems that cause most injuries and deaths.Medical negligence is a fact. Our government estimates that as many as 98,000 people per year die from preventable medical errors. The cost of these errors is enormous and, when our civil justice system is crippled by tort reform, those costs are often shouldered by the public through increased taxes and fees.Tort law is designed to do two things: to provide just and reasonable compensation to people injured by the negligence or carelessness of another and to discourage behavior likely to result in injury. When we "dis-incentivize" good medical practices by immunizing health care providers, we make it more, not less, likely that people will be injured as a result of medical errors.There is no evidence of which I am aware that these reforms have benefitted anyone other than big insurance companies. In California, it is increasingly difficult or impossible for patients who are injured by medical errors to receive "just and reasonable" compensation for the harm caused. The cost of litigating such cases is prohibitive in light of the 32-year-old MICRA cap which limits damages to $250,000 in most cases - even those involving gross negligence or the death of a child.

This book will displease a lot of physicians who have been brainwashed to think that the answers to their malpractice problems are tort reform and blaming the victims. Baker compiles an impressive bibliography of articles, reports and controlled studies to back up his assertions. He writes the truth and should be taken seriously by physicians, insurers and politicians -- many of whom are completely ignorant about the real causes and prevention of medical injuries and malpractice claims.

If MD's & AMA would read this excellent book & follow its advice, the US would be a better country. Until they do (if they ever do), you need to read it & be alerted to a widespread kind of problem with US media & medicine. That, too, would move this nation ahead.

From my standpoint as a physician, I found the objective data very provocative. However, I consider Tom Baker's conclusions and interpretations based on the data misguided and inflated. I consider that the book is useful to read, as it contains accurate data based on research. However, his interpretation and representation of the data to support his views that there should be more litigation and access to litigation than there is today against medical professionals only serves to promote his bias against medical professionals working in good faith in an imperfect world.

If Tom Baker came into my Emergency Department as a patient, he would almost certainly get MORE care (studies, procedures, consultations), but there is a very good chance that it would be worse for his health. However it would not be from malicious or punitive intent.Like nearly all outsiders, and unfortunately most physicians, Baker underestimates the impact of doing more medicine in order to be more careful. A fantastic literature is now emerging exploring the problem of overzealous medical care. See Shannon Brownlee's "Overtreated," Gilbert Welch's "Overdiagnosed," or the really superb "Hippocrates Shadow" by David Newman. It is the effect of the confluence of money, technology, consumers' expectation of immediate and complete satisfaction, and physicians' overconfidence in the salvific power of our craft.The problem is that despite the enormous contributions of technology, medical diagnosis is not nearly accurate enough, and as a result there will be increased cost in terms of risk (I'm not talking about money here) to pursuing earlier diagnosis. This has to do with the basic statistical notion of the FALSE POSITIVE. When diagnostic tests are less than 100% accurate then they will occasionally yield false results - this is obvious.What is not obvious is the paradoxical effect of applying imperfect tests to low-risk populations. When I have a test that is "only" 99% accurate, and I apply it to a patient group that has a 1% chance of having the condition in question, fully ONE HALF of those who have a positive test result will be FALSE POSITIVE. If the previous factual statistical statement doesn't cause you some psychic distress, then keep reading it until you begin to understand the implications.Most of the conditions that we in Emergency Medicine are interested in diagnosing are low-likelihood. Only about 5% of my chest pain patients are having a heart attack. Only about 3% of my trauma patients with neck pain have a neck fracture. Fewer than 1 in a thousand of my abdominal pain patients has the emergency aortic condition that killed John Ritter. When you cross a certain threshold, "being more careful" means creating more "false positive" than "true positive" diagnoses for my patients.I'm in my 12th year as a full-time board certified ER physician working at a large tertiary center helping to train the next generation of physicians. I can tell you, in the culture of modern American medicine, the pendulum has swung too far toward over-diagnosis. I truly fear that Baker's solution - more malpractice lawsuits to browbeat us into doing better will only succeed in causing us to do more .... harm that is.

When I was a child, I loved playing with my paper dolls. Now, I'm over 70 years old and am still enjoying dressing Jose Posada's Skeletons in their bright Mexican costumes. What a wonderful way to enrich learning and appreciation of Mexican art and culture. Through these paper dolls Spanish students can learn about Mexico's traditions of The Day of the Dead.These paper dolls bring to life the celebrations in Posada's State of Guanajuato, Mexico. These figurines remind me of those I saw in the market in San Miguel de Allende. What beauty and what fun one can derive in dressing these unique paper dolls. This book is a wonderful gift for young and old!

I love these dolls! The vivid and colorful outfits cover a wide range of Mexican fashions, both historical and more contemporary. Since I am fond of both Día de los Muertos and paper dolls, this was a very exciting find! The beautiful designs went beyond my expectations and I have actually enjoyed sitting and cutting them out.

I celebrate the Day of the Dead in a big way and this book added to the fun for the children!

Product was not as expected. I wouldn't have thought all outfits needed to be cut; I assumed it would have perforated edges so you could easily change out outfits. I would not recommend. Aside from that, seller was fast, especially for before Christmas.

El dia del los muertos was just about skulls and skeletons for me before seeing this book. Not only is it a visual hoot (the skeletal characters have names that, believe it or not, are authentic to the holiday), but there are the coolest add-ons: a large sticker sheet with a host of skeletons in different situations and plying a host of trades. The bi-lingual captions added a smattering of Spanish to my vocabulary, and I was somewhat astounded to learn that the artist is actually a Chinese-American. But then, I noted that she had done a book of voodoo paper dolls (supply your own pins) that are equally authentic to bayou culture. Here's a practicing ethnologist working in the medium of paper dolls! Who could have imagined. Highly recommended. Buy one to cut and another for your collection. Sure to start a conversation over margaritas!

These were purchased for my granddaugter who loves alnything associated with the Day of the Dead celebration. The artistry in this item was outstanding. Thanks for great service.

This book is quite different from Bryson's usual fare. Here Bryson steps out of his usual travel and language focus to write about science. The product is an interesting combination of the social history of science, biographies of famous scientists, and discussion of significant scientific discoveries in very accessible language. What science does Bryson cover, you might ask? This is where "everything" comes in to the picture. Bryson has chosen a wide range of scientific discoveries, from working out the theory of evolution to discovering the size and shape of the earth. Mostly, Bryson focuses on the largest and smallest things in the universe. He looks at galaxies and volcanoes, but also DNA and atoms. Truly, this book is expansive. For the lay reader, it becomes clear that there's a tremendous amount of knowledge tied up in this book, and it's amazing just how much Bryson had to learn to write it. For the non-scientist, this book manages to create a sense of awe, wonder, and fear, all at the same time. Bryson does an excellent job of highlighting just how surprising and contingent the fact of our existence is, and how complicated it was to get here. He creates amazement as the reader is forced to consider almost unfathomable dimensions, both gargantuan and tiny. Contingency is clearly the most significant theme that emerges from the work. Bryson also paints an interesting portrait of the practice of science, scientific culture, and a sense of just how difficult and tenuous some conclusions are. While it's amazing just how much scientists have discovered, it's even more daunting to consider how much remains inconclusive. Overall, this is an extremely accessible discussion of some difficult topics, infused with Bryson's humor and style. It's a long read, but well worth the effort.

A friend of mine recommended this book knowing that I like science. I'm used to reading about the sciences in single topics. This book surprised me in the amount of effort the author took to go through book after book of different sciences, both old and new, and proceeded to connect the dots into several cohesive stories about our home, planet Earth, and its residents. The biggest surprise is how little we truly know about both and just how much luck was involved that both exist in their present form. This book is an easy read and should be understandable to anyone who has a basic interest in science.Be prepared though to being overwhelmed because there is a lot of information in this book, with references to other works. This book is best read in sections allowing yourself some time to think about what you have learned; and I'm sure you are going to learn at least a few things.I highly recommend this book to anyone who would like to understand what an amazing place our planet is and life that exists on it.

I have just completed Bill Bryson’s “A Short History of Nearly Everything” for the second time. I am quite certain it will not be my last reading. I cannot think of any other single-volume book I have ever read that was as informative, entertaining, and broad in scope as this classic. Not having excelled in science, nor been much interested in it when I was younger, this gem is a massive refresher course on everything I ever learned about science, and then some.Bryson moves seamlessly from one sweeping topic to the next with great ease. Whether he is expounding upon thermodynamics, paleontology or cosmology, he helps us to grasp, to the extent that seems possible, the interrelatedness of all physical phenomona. He is particularly skillful at putting into perspective concepts of size and dimension within the universe, whether mind-bogglingly vast expanses or minuscule marvels of life’s building blocks. He not only teaches us what is known, but humbles us by emphasizing how much we do not know.Bryson also brings us biographical sketches of the greatest names in science as only an enormously talented humorist could do. Intellectual giants like Newton, Einstein, and many others, are brought to us with all their eccentricities. So many brilliant individuals were quite odd, which makes them much more human and accessible to the Bryson’s reader.There is also a moral underpinning to Bryson’s book which becomes most evident in the final chapter. Our species has, in essence, become the extinction event for so many others with which we have shared the planet. Beginning with the unsuspecting and gentle dodo bird, Bryson outlines how we have systematically brought about the termination of thousands of creatures, intentionally or through ignorance. This sobering reality makes one a bit more respectful of current efforts to save endangered species.No species, and indeed no human being, is anything other than a miracle of chance, a reality in which Bryson rejoices from his opening chapter. He congratulates each of us for surviving the cut and coming into existence against all odds. His book is humbling and thought-provoking, leaving one with a sense of awe at the grandeur of, well, nearly everything.

I read the hardcover version first, all the while wishing there were pictures, diagrams, maps, etc. I then heard of this illustrated version and ordered it right away. This adds so much to the text. Written in Bryson's easy, slightly ironic style, this book tackles subjects that are often difficult to fully grasp. Great fun and much improved with pictures!

Introduction Samhain is a great “Fire Festival” of the ancient Celts, celebrated at the official close of the harvest. By Samhain all the produce of the fields must be safely gathered into the house and barn and anything left in the fields after this date is the property of the Good Neighbors (the Sidhe) and not to be touched by mortals. It is an old Celtic tradition to leave offerings for the Fairies on this potent Spirit night. Samhain marks the end of the Celtic year and after a three-day observance, the beginning of the next agricultural cycle. Just as a seed begins its existence in the dark of the soil, so does the New Year begin in the dark of winter, which is the time to rest, take stock of the past year’s accomplishments, and dream in future goals. For the ancient Celts there were only two seasons: summer and winter. The festivals of Samhain and Beltaine (May Day) were portals between two spheres of existence, the dark half of the year and the light half of the year, times of chaos when the Otherworld more easily bled through. Samhain, like Beltaine (May Day) was a potent Spirit night, a liminal time when the walls between the worlds were thin and ancestral Spirits roamed the Earth. It was a good time for divination and contact with the Otherworld. Chapter 2. Herbs of Protection and Why We Might Need Them According to Celtic tradition the dead come to visit the living at Samhain, especially in the dark of night. A welcome is extended to these wandering dead by leaving a door open, setting an extra plate of food at the table, and by placing an extra seat near the hearth. Candles are lit and placed in windows and doorways to light the way home for departed ancestors. But it is understood that not all these ancestors are happy and that some might come to take revenge for slights inflicted upon them in their previous life. Ghosts are known to seek out and follow those with whom they have a grudge and if one hears footsteps behind them it can be deadly to turn around and look. If you have to be outside it is wise to go in disguise so as not to be recognized by vengeful Spirits. Periwinkle, Sorcerer's Violet, Flower of Immortality, Flower of Death Vinca minor, Vinca major The woodland ground covers known as Lesser and Greater Periwinkle have the same medicinal properties. The herb and flower tea are used for diarrhea, gastritis, heavy menstruation, bleeding between periods and other hemorrhages, and as a gargle for tonsillitis and sore throat. Periwinkle is sedative and beneficial for nervous conditions. The tea is used as a wash for eczema, wounds and inflammations. A poultice of the plants is applied to cramps. Use it in salves for hemorrhoids and for inflammations. *Caution: taking large amounts could harm the kidneys and nervous system, upset digestion, and cause hypertension. Avoid during pregnancy and breast feeding. Periwinkle can cause irritation to the skin in some people. Periwinkle is said to be a charm against “Evil Spirits” and was once made into crowns for dead children. Wear the herb or hang it over the door and on gateposts to repel evil spirits and ill intentioned sorcery. “In France the plant was placed in a buttonhole it was thought to keep evil spirits away. In some areas, it was added to both wedding and funeral wreaths… The flower is called by the Italians Centocchio, or 'Hundred Eyes,' but it is also called 'The Flower of Death,' from the ancient custom of making it into garlands to place on the biers of dead children. To the Germans, it is the 'Flower of Immortality’… In Italy wreaths bound by Periwinkle were placed around the neck of condemned men, before their execution.” Periwinkle at Samhain Make a wreath of Periwinkle and hang it on your door. Drape it over gates and windowsills as protection against ill-intentioned Spirits. Mandrake Mandragora officinalrum, M. vernalis, M. autumnalis The ancient Greeks considered this plant to be an aphrodisiac. They also used it to help with insomnia, anxiety, depression and as a general pain remedy. *Caution - Mandrake should not be taken internally more than once a week and larger doses could be fatal. Mandrake contains trance-inducing tropane alkaloids. Ancient Egyptian paintings sometimes show priest-shamans guiding the living and the dead, accompanied by both Mandrake and Sacred Blue Lotus (Nymphaea caerulea). Sacred Blue Lotus is aphrodisiac, euphoriant, slightly mind altering, and helps to alleviate pain. The flowers are brewed as tea or soaked in wine. Mandrake protects against demonic possession and is used in exorcisms. To activate a root first display it prominently in the home for three days then soak it in water overnight. Sprinkle the water on entrances, windows, and people. Left on the mantle it attracts prosperity and happiness to the house. While digging the root avoid touching it because the first person to do so will likely die (This is why dogs were once used to pull it from the Earth). Mandrake roots are used as poppets for good or ill. To make a poppet take a root that looks like a person, decorate it to make it more closely resemble your “target” and then focus blessings or curses on the homunculus. Mandrake at Samhain Display a Mandrake root in your home for three days; the day before Samhain, the day of Samhain, and the day after. Then soak it in water overnight and use the water to sprinkle entrances, exits, and windows. Leave the root on display afterwards.

Andrew Knapp is a freelance interface designer and photographer from northern Ontario who desires to make everyday routines into creative adventures. Along with his commercial photography and design work, he’s filmed a TEDx Talk, collaborated on an Instamissions project with MTV and Sony, and cofounded the We Live Up Here collaboration exploring life in Sudbury, Ontario. Momo is an adorable black-and-white, brown-eyed border collie, Andrew’s BFF, and a genius at hiding. The Find Momo series brings me back to my childhood memories of playing the best game ever: hide-and-seek. There's a beauty in the simplicity of this book and it's something that all ages can appreciate. My whole family, everyone from parents right down to nieces and nephews, get a kick out of following Andrew Knapp on Instagram and the adventures he and Momo go on. I recently had the opportunity to meet this duo on their book tour and can honestly say they are the real deal. With Momo as his co-pilot, Knapp seeks a happy life and helps others do the same.

Purchased as a gift for a young girl who fell in love with my Border Collie. I thought she would have an enjoyable time trying to find the hidden Border Collie within the book's photographs....................but will not know until after Christmas 2014 whether or not that is true. I did go through the book myself..........in some of the photos you really do have to work to find MOMO.....but it is something you do.......then it will only be picked up from time to time to share the search for MOMO with friends, acquaintances, and guests who are into dogs. I liked it..........but I own a Border Collie so my judgment is skewed.

Heard about this project on the internet, saw images of Momo on Instagram and thought it only made sense to support this work. Great for dog lovers and especially interesting for little kids (think Where's Waldo, where Waldo is replaced with a border collie).

My favourite Momo story is about him going swimming for the first time! Took me a couple hours to go through the book, I read every story, saw every picture in detail, admired the compositions, loved Momo's hiding skills, and didn't have to use the answer key even once.It is a delightful book with amazing photographs; finding Momo goes from easy to hard very quickly; the back stories are lovely; the behind-the-scenes stories are sweet; and Momo is simply an adorable dog that you just want to give belly rubs to!As a dog-lover, photography enthusiast, and Instagrammer, this book is an absolute treat. If you don't own a copy, go get one NOW! Thank you, Andrew & Momo, for a wonderful journey through your adventures! It's a delight!!!

A bigger book, filled with great pictures. A little long for small toddler but great taken a little at a time. It's a paperback which is why I gave it 4 stars, but it has a lot more pictures in it too. Will be a favorite.

I bought this book for my three-year-old niece who has a border collie, but it's rather difficult for young child. She likes it, and she works to find the dog, but honestly my brother and I spent more time looking at the book than she did. While it is reminiscent of Where's Waldo, I think that the book is quite suitable for adults, and entertaining.

This book is absolutely wonderful! I've been following Momo and Andrew's travels for ages now, and having a physical copy of my favorite "hide and seek" game is honestly the best. The quality is lovely as well, and you get little tidbits and facts about everyone's favorite border collie, Momo. Five stars all around !!

The perfect coffee table book. This book is endlessly entertaining for children and adults alike. Sometimes finding Momo is difficult and sometimes it's easy, but Momo is always adorable. If you don't already follow @AndrewKnapp on instagram I highly recommend doing so. Andrew travels the continent with his dog who is very well trained at concealing himself. The photos taken are very well thought out and Momo's signature head tilts are always a treat. I have been a big fan for some time and this wonderful book did not disappoint.
