I have to confess that I have not read the book completely but as I was skimming through it before giving it to my kids I came across a couple things that the book could have done without. The first has to do with a section on palm reading. While most people will see this as just a game and nothing to make a big deal, I have issue with this. It dabbles with the occult which is dangerous. I grew up in a country where the spirit world was very real- not something to be played with. Most in the Western world may scoff at this but there are far too many things out there that could have been added instead of this. The other thing that I had issue with was under games for a sleep over. There was a "game" to summon the spirit of Bloody Mary. Once again, something that in my opinion dabbles too close to the occult. Since I am pointing out things that some may want to know about before purchasing- there is also a section on how to tell a ghost story. This is something that you make up, so I don't find quite so controversial; although it would not be missing anything if it was left out. I gave this book 4 stars because overall from what I saw I thought the book was fun and full of good tidbits but wanted to point out some things so that others are not caught completely off guard if they have issues with these things being in a book for children.

I bought this book for a friend's daughter several years ago, and then a few years ago, I bought it for my granddaughter for her 9th birthday. She didn't discover a love of reading until she received this book. She is 11 now, and still keeps it by her bedside. It's filled with useful and fun information. I just purchased another one for my second granddaughter, and plan to give it to her for her 7th birthday.

This book is great! Its like a scout book for girls. Tons of useful advice and instructions to do a wide variety of things. As a parent I wish I had this book when I was little. It is fun to read through together and work on projects together!

So I got this for my 8 year old niece and I'm not sure it is a gift I'd give her this early. Some of the topics they over are: Writing Letters, Modern Women Leaders, and Negotiating a Salary (for babysitting etc). But some topics are cute for her to learn. I say this book may need to come with parental guidance or at least be available for Q&A that might need to come with it.I got my brother the Daring book for boys when he was 15 and it was appropriate I think.

Got this for our daughter because she was jealous of my son's copy of "The Dangerous Book for Boys". She loves it! It covers so many different topics and is actually a really fun book to leave out for display. The cover is bright and it's well put together so we leave it on the coffee table. My daughter shows it off to people and tells them about what she's learned.

I bought this for my 10 year old daughter for Christmas and she absolutely loves it! She hasn't put it down since yesterday!

This is a very cute book with a lot of good information and activities in it. It has a lot of "old school" things that "kids these days" don't get exposed to.

We have the first book and just had to have the second! It doesn't disappoint! My girls use things they have learned in here on a daily basis! I truly wish I had these books when I was growing up, they are fantastic!

This book. Holy wow! How can one person top herself over and over again?!? I am blown away by Reid's ability to write such engaging, real-life, entertaining, phenomenal stories, one after the other! I loved her last one, and the one before it... And I am in love with this one too!Let me start with how realistic this book felt. You will probably think I am dumb, but I honestly forgot this book is a fictional book about a fictional band. It is told so vividly and accurately that I went and googled Daisy & the Six. I kid you not. I am not ashamed to admit it. I totally did!The format of this book is completely different that any other book. It did take me a minute or five to get used to it, but once I did, there was no stopping those pages from turning. I can't see this book told any other way. It was perfect for this story. And the why it was told this way does reveal itself towards the end, which made the story even more profound.These characters. I was worried because of the way Reid was telling the story that I wouldn't be able to connect to any of them. I was wrong. I connected to these characters so deeply. I didn't want their story to end. I wanted everyone to have unicorns and rainbows by the end. I was totally invested in them throughout the entire book.I want to address something about this book and early reviews I have seen. I don't do this often, hardly ever, but I feel the need to point some things out. I have seen some mark this book with triggers. Let me be clear, there aren't actual incidences where any form of a trigger warning would be necessary. This book is about a band in the 70s and 80s. If you know anything about that time, especially about bands in that era, it was sex, drugs, and rock n roll. This book depicts those things vividly, but not in detail. Does the book mention they do drugs? Yes. Does it mention promiscuous sex? Yes. Does it mention sex and females of questionable age? Yes. Notice I used the word mention. There aren't details. There is a depiction of what was going on in that time era. So, if you see reviews that make you leary, I would take them lightly.I think this book will be a top book of the year for me. I know, it's early, but this book is THAT good. I can't give it enough praise. I truthfully cannot think of a negative thing to say about it.

The characters (including said "magnetic" singer) lack character, and there is little suspense or drama. The journey of Daisy Jones & The Six is serendipitous rather than dramatic. Unfortunately, serendipitous tales are tedious reading. Standard rock scene tropes (the drugs, the groupies, the excess brought by fame) are dutifully trotted out, but there is very little here that feels authentic or grabs one's attention.I'm not sure why there is so much enthusiasm for this novel. Frankly, I'm reminded of recent news stories reporting that many "user reviews" posted to online marketplaces and review sites are actually fabricated (think marketing) pieces. At very least, most of the hyper-enthusiastic Amazon reviews appear to be from readers who were given advance copies (and so have an incentive to over-hype what they receive). Either or both of these is a plausible explanation for the 4.5 star rating here on Amazon.In any case, I found this novel unremarkable - a 2 star work at best.

This novel was so incredibly authentic that about 50 pages into it, I actually Googled Daisy Jones to see if somehow, this band were real and I didn’t know about them.I love, loved, LOVED every page and it’s already a contender for Top Ten of 2019 for me – and 2019 hasn’t even begun. Here are some of the reasons why:It’s REAL – the good, the bad, the ugly: As someone who truly “came of age” in the 70s, this book really caught the vibe. The book captures a time before sound-effects-gone-wild dominated the music industry. Taylor Jenkins Reid captures the atmosphere superbly.It’s INSIGHTFUL: These are characters who are passionate about their music, their lives, and each other. They yearn, they love, they bleed. They experience the push and pull between the lure of temptation and staying on the right path. They don’t always succeed, but wow do they try.It’s INTELLIGENT: This isn’t the same hashed-over story of a band’s meteoric rise and plunge back to earth. Billy Dunne is an artist with issues, sure, but he’s also a person who survives despite his instincts. “My instincts said to run toward the chaos. But my better brain sent me home to my woman.” Daisy Jones is a gorgeous pill-popping immensely talented singer, but she’s also an artist with a complicated inner life and a yearning for a man she cannot have. Every single band member comes alive in this book.It’s EMOTIVE: There were scenes and lines that made me sit there and cry. Or laugh. Or cheer. As a character-driven reader, I look for characters that could step outside the pages. I felt as if I knew these band members.It’s ORIGINAL: The fictional book is set up like an oral history compiled and edited from conversations and transcripts, with a surprise at the end. Not only does the author invent a band but also the story behind it – and there’s even a playlist that accompanies it.I can go on and on but I’ll end this review with two words: Read it! I just love how vividly Susan creates the setting for her books. I always feel like with her imagery I can step into the community/time period and really view the world. I was quite excited to read her newly released, yes you can get this fantastic book NOW!! book, Falcon in the Glass.My thoughts on Falcon in the Glass: What an experience, to go back in time to life in Venice in the 15th century and experience life through a glass maker laborer's existence. I always love how Susan Fletcher can spin a tale. I am quite a fan of her Dragon Chronicle series and was completely lost in this new gorgeous tale which is filled with intrigue, adventure, survival, glassmaking, history, murder, assassins, and determination.The book slowly welcomes you into a world where you care about every character and begin to worry about each fate. The main character is Renzo, a young boy determined to pass a test to prove he is worthy of being an apprentice to a glassmaker. He is in a pretty desperate situation after his father is murdered by an assassin and failed the first test almost a year ago. Renzo takes a risk and reaches out for help from someone that could create some pretty big complications.It has been a little while since I read a historical fiction book about a new-to-me time period. I love how Susan Fletcher immersed herself in this world and created a magical yet realistic place to exist in imagination.I hope many students who loved getting lost in another fantastic book, The False Prince by Jennifer A. Nielsen, also enjoy getting lost in this story. I would recommend it for mature fifth grade students up through adults!Quotes I loved from Falcon in the Glass:"It was a ghostly sight, so startlingly strange that for some time afterward the captain wondered if he might have imagined it.""His shoulders, arms, and back all ached; a dark pool of weariness pressed down on the crown of his head and seeped into his eyes.""The mind might grasp the work, but the body must know it too, know it without thinking - in the memory of the hands, in the wisdom of the eyes, to judge from the color of the glass when it's time to blow it, to spin it, to warm it again in the furnace."

Renzo dreams of becoming the greatest glassblower on Murano, the island near Venice where many beautiful glass pieces are created each day. But since his father's death he has been forced to prove himself early in the hopes that he can become an apprentice and help support his mother and young sister.His task is much harder, because he's not allowed to have anyone help him learn what he needs to know before he is tested. When he happens across a band of children who have a mysterious connection with birds, he forges a relationship that just may help him get what he needs while providing them with food and shelter. To do this, Renzo will have to work against forces that would lock up the children and bring him and his family down with them.Falcon in the Glass by Susan Fletcher brings the history and beauty of glassblowing in Murano to life along with a tale of children who must be daring and brave to change their circumstances.Renzo at first sees the bird children as pawns he can use to help him get what he needs to bring security to his family. But as he begins to look at them as individuals, he learns that he can no longer think only of his own comfort. He finds himself taking risks for them because he knows it's the right thing to do. He also begins to feel a special bond with their leader, Letta.When Letta and the others are accused of witchcraft, Renzo has to find a way to help his new friends without bringing suspicion upon his own family.Fletcher is a master at evoking a vivid depiction of a past way of life while also creating a fascinating tale set there. As a twelve-year-old boy, Renzo is grown up beyond his years because he has an enormous amount of responsibility to take care of his family. Yet he hasn't hardened so much that he can't see the humanity even in those who set themselves against him.Falcon in the Glass is a great read for anyone who loves a blending of history and adventure. I recommend it for readers aged 9 to 13.The publisher provided me with a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

This is a beautifully written, captivating book that takes you into the foul dungeon of fifteenth century Venice, into the murderous intrigue that protected the secrets of Murano glass, but also into the bright hot glassworks and the passion and joy of creating things of beauty. It’s an adventure filled with action and suspense. It’s also a story about how people who are different are often feared and persecuted. Readers of The Dragon Chronicles will recognize the bird children with their green eyes.The book is vividly historical with a gentle dusting of magic and a wealth of great characters. I loved Letta, so headstrong yet vulnerable. All the bird children will capture your heart. And Renzo, who is one of those people who thinks if he just works hard enough he can get everything under control, the way he eventually opens himself to others is both lovely and gut-wrenching. When I finished Falcon in the Glass, there were tears in my eyes.

I love the moth and I'm sure I would love these stories. Bought these books for gifts and they were banging around loose in the box and damaged. I returned them for a replacement three books, also damaged. sending them back and will buy somewhere else. Also just generally the cover is not very nice. Doll and no book jacket.

Olaf Groth is a Professor and Program Director for Digital Futures at Hult International Business School. He is the founder and CEO of Emergent Frontiers Group and Cambrian AI, a member of the Global Expert Network at the World Economic Forum. Olaf has written for the Harvard Business Review, HBR France, Financial Times, and more.Mark Nitzberg serves as Executive Director of the Center for Human Compatible Artificial Intelligence at University of California at Berkeley. Mark studied AI at M.I.T. and completed his Ph.D. at Harvard University. Most recently he was Director, Computer Vision Products at A9/Amazon.

The book covers a range of domains where AI plays a key role, which makes it accessible and digestible to a spectrum of people. Everyone can identify applications they most closely resonate with, and more importantly, get a glimpse of the problem-solution dilemma in terms they can action - feeling empowered to be a decision maker in the world of the future. An excellent read, which I can already see revisiting time and time again.

This book is a call to arms; if we don't set ground rules now for AI, we allow bad actors to exploit us all. The authors avoid sensationalism in favor of a calm, analytical overview of where we're at now with AI, and where we could be headed. It's well-informed, written for a layperson, and focuses on the ethical and moral implications of allowing technology to outpace social norms and legal protections. Highly recommended for anyone interested in where the world is headed!The book is neither alarmist nor sensationalist, yet it does paint a picture of where we're at now with AI, globally, and where we could be headed.

Solomon's Code was a joy to read. It did a fantastic job of distilling and demystifying AI for the everyday reader. The content and examples were accessible, interesting, and brought the issues to life. At the same time, the book is exceptionally well researched - with insights spanning well outside of the technical arena, from medicine, to history, to criminality. A great, in-depth illustration of just how far-reaching the impact of these emerging technologies will go. I would strongly recommend it to anyone, regardless of background, who is simply curious about the role that technology is playing in shaping the future.

After receiving and diving straight in Solomon's Code, I've ordered more copies of this extraordinary book to give to colleagues and friends. Olaf J Groth and Mark Nitzberg's future picture of AI provides insights and guides the reader to examine ethical and philosophical questions. The use of fictional examples mixed with real stories of tech companies that are driving innovation provides a fantastic combination of vision and facts.This is the book that every manager and leader should read to receive meaningful and thought-provoking help in designing solutions to current and future social challenges.

Either you are an artificial intelligence expert or just a curious beginner, this book gives you amazing insights about the AI economy, the importance of our humanity and how the new technologies will unfold and impact our lives forever. On top of all the knowledge you'll gain from it, it's also really entertaining to imagine to future through the lengths of Olaf and Mark!

I have a technical background, but even without that this well-researched and engaging book would have been easy to understand. It brought up points I hadn't thought of before regarding all the ways advances in AI will slide into our day-to-day lives. Read it, talk about it, and help shape a future we'll all want.

I can't recommend this book highly enough. It provides and excellent outline and guide as we enter into this new world of "thinking machines", as the authors call Artificial Intelligence. I feel I now have a much better idea of the landscape ahead. What had previously sounded challenging and even threatening, now sounds a bit exciting. My gratitude to the authors.

If you want to know the human side of AI and how humans will be affected by AI, this is a must read! This was a really good book and can be understood with and without technical expertise. The book goes deep into topics and provides excellent perspectives. It really highlights not just the technical side of AI but also the human side and impact which is unique and refreshing.
